Chris started the 1996-1997 season with the fledgling WPHL franchise in Waco, Texas. Being a recent early 2nd round draft pick in the NHL draft having a player like Chris stood to add instant legitimacy to the young league. Chris came in as player Assistant Coach but his time in would prove to be short at the franchise, only playing 9 games.
